MBBS Students for Ragging Incident

In response to a recent incident of ragging and assault involving a first-year student at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, four 4th-year MBBS students faced disciplinary action on Saturday, with notices of suspension issued by Dean Santosh Kumar Mishra.

Based on the recommendations of the anti-ragging committee, two students have been suspended from entering the college campus for a two-month period. Dean Mishra specified that during this time, the duo is required to vacate the hostel and abstain from attending classes.

Additionally, two other 4th-year students, who were witnesses to the ragging episode but failed to intervene, have been directed to vacate the hostel and are barred from attending classes for a two-week duration.

The incident in question occurred on the night of February 9, when the victim, a resident of Balasore and a boarder in Gents Hostel-2, was allegedly ragged and assaulted by two students on his way back to the hostel after a band practice. The victim sustained injuries to his face and neck during the incident.

Following the assault, the victim promptly reported the matter to Baidyanathpur police and filed an online complaint with the anti-ragging cell of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in Delhi. In response, a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the two students involved in the ragging and assault. The dean of MKCG Medical College and Hospital has been directed to take necessary actions against the accused students in accordance with the guidelines issued by the UGC.
