Expulsion of MBBS Students Amid Ragging

In a recent development, four second-year MBBS students from the Government Medical College in Ramagundam faced expulsion from the college hostel on Wednesday, following allegations of ragging that transpired at the boys’ hostel on Tuesday. The incident unfolded in the industrial hub of Peddapalli district, where the college is situated.

The expulsion decision was made by the college authorities in response to a complaint lodged by a first-year MBBS student, accusing some senior students of engaging in ragging activities. Established in 2022 in the coal belt, the Government Medical College, Ramagundam, found itself embroiled in controversy as the aggrieved student detailed the incident in his complaint. He claimed to have been coerced into cutting his hair using a trimmer by four senior hostel mates at the college hostel on Tuesday, according to sources.

Dr. Hima Bindu Singh, the Principal of Government Medical College, Ramagundam, confirmed the actions taken by stating that a meeting of the college’s anti-ragging committee is scheduled for February 15. Dr. Singh explained, “We have removed four MBBS second-year students from the college hostel and asked them to attend the meeting with their parents. Further course of action will be taken based on the recommendations of the committee.”

This incident sheds light on the persistent issue of ragging within educational institutions, prompting authorities to address such matters promptly and decisively to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
